The National House Building Council Pride in the Job Awards are one of the principal ways that homebuilders in the UK benchmark their standards and showcase their expertise. For site managers winning an NHBC award is testimony to the hard work and effort they have put into their project.

Although the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards focus heavily on workmanship, always remember that, of the nine categories the NHBC assessors consider, the final category is “Organisation”. Site managers are expected to organise their sites proficiently as well as achieving a great finished product. And professional organisation means having well organised systems to manage the site.

Having a well-written induction script or induction flipcharts, attractive site safety posters full of impact and good communications with trades indicates to the NHBC assessors that your site is well organised. This isn’t always easy for site managers. Quite understandably good site managers want to spend the majority of their day driving the site and don’t want to get bogged down in paperwork. Site managers, don’t always have the time, skills or technical expertise to produce well-wrought systems.

That is where good administrative support and guidance can pay dividends. If your site can afford a full- time administrator then fine but that’s not always possible. If you want to find out how I can support you in creating effective systems for organising your site then take a look at my website.
